How to Resurface A Kitchen Sink in 7 Steps?

A kitchen sink is the most usable place in our homes because we spend a lot of our time in the kitchen and use the kitchen sink to wash the dishes and for many other purposes.

Sometimes it can be damaged due to its prolonged use. So we can install a new sink to get rid of this problem and resurface the sink if we don’t want to set up a new sink.

This method is more cost-effective, and it can be done in significantly less time and consumes a small amount of money. How to resurface a kitchen sink is an important question most people ask due to kitchen sink issues.

The white kitchen sink can quickly show you the dirt and stains to clean them during the resurfacing. You can also change the colour of the sink to make it more fabulous and beautiful.

Although the kitchen sink resurfacing is not an easy process, you can do it if you follow the instructions that we will share with you. This article will discuss some steps to resurface the kitchen sink for your home.

Most homeowners don’t know about this idea, and whenever their sink gets damaged, they replace the sink instead of replacing it, and it is a costly process. It is the same as refinishing a kitchen sink.

Seven Steps for Resurface Sink

Step #01 Sink Cleaning

First of all, you have to clean the sink before resurfacing it. For this purpose, you can use trisodium phosphate on a soft cloth and clean the sink carefully.

It is available at any hardware store; it has many benefits like removing the stains and old soap symbols and cleaning the residue.

The most valuable thing about using trisodium phosphate is it accumulates dirt from any porcelain sink surface efficiently and excellently.

If the sink does not get cleaned, you can look for a heavy-duty soap with trisodium phosphate, wash the sink with this soap, and dry it for 2-3 hours.

Step #02 Sand the Skin’s Surface

Now use any grit sandpaper and hold it in your hand’s sander’s clamps to thoroughly sand the kitchen sink. Don’t forget to smooth the edges of the sink. It will make the sink surface rough to adhere to the new paint easily.

The sanding will also smoothen the small chips and scratches; the non-metals sinks are stubborn having the adhesion stick; we should sand them until it becomes coarse.

Step#03 Smoothen the Sink Surface

In this step, take any masking paper and cover the faucet and countertops of the kitchen; for more security, cover it with tape and apply it to the sink metal drain.

Then use any reliable grit sandpaper and sand it to make it more smooth and clean. Make sure that you have removed all the debris and dirt.

Step #04 Apply Bonding Agent

When you remove all the dirt and you feel that now the surface is smooth, apply the bonding agent; the coating area should be thin for any even surface and dry for 5-10 minutes.

Step #05 Apply the Epoxy Primer

When the bonding agent is dry on the kitchen sink surface, take the primer epoxy and use it on the porcelain surface. The thing that you should take into your mind is the bonding agent and coating is very thin.

Now use the paintbrush to remove the visible brush strokes; when you brush the entire surface of the sink, leave for 10 minutes.

Step #06 Re-Sand the Sink

Take the grit sandpaper and sand the sink surface again when the primer epoxy dries. Then clean the accumulated dirt and dust particles using any dumb paper.

When the surface becomes neat and clean and looks shining, take the primer epoxy and apply a light layer. Then leave it for approximately 15 minutes.

Step #07 Apply a Thin Acrylic Topcoat

When the epoxy primer’s second layer becomes dry, use a good quality brush and apply a light acrylic coating. Ensure that the meeting uses the same direction to avoid the brush marks on the sink surface.

After some minutes, apply the acrylic top coated again, this will work well for the nonmetal sinks, but if you have a metal kitchen sink, you can also use metal etching spray.

Repeat this process for the other two applications and ensure that each layer is thin and has sufficient time to dry. It’s an essential step in resurfacing the kitchen sink.

If you have a small kitchen sink that is battered with chips, stains, or scratches, the reason is that it can be used for many years, but you don’t need to worry because you can renew your sink by using the kitchen sink resurfacing process.
